A good article by Kevin Kirkland of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on the rediscovery of Pete Hill. Good to see Patrick Rock interviewed and his work on Pete, which got the ball rolling, acknowledged.

Heartfelt Thanks to you Gary for contacting me via Ancestry.com last year in hopes of locating family of John Preston “Pete” Hill, brother of my Grandfather Walter V Hill. I was unaware that my Great uncle was inducted into the Baseball HOF and that his name, birth place were incorrect on his plaque. Now a year later, I am informed that his plaque will be corrected on Oct. 12,2010.. I am so gratefull to you and Patrick for your sincere efforts to bring attention to the errors made on his plaque.Had it not been for the research that both of you contributed, this ceremony on the 12th quite possibly may not have happened and those who later became involved have both of you to thank as well. I will be going to the ceremony and I hope to possibly meet you and Patrick.

Leslie, thanks! This has certainly been one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had in baseball research. I hope to see you at Cooperstown as well–I haven’t figured out yet whether I’ll be able to go or not, but I’ll try.
