Let me suggest, gently, that it is maybe not the greatest idea in the world to have something called the Pre-Integration Committee, and then to give it the job of inducting only white people into the Hall of Fame.

I agree with you about the “Pre-Integration” Comittee.I think it could use more diversity. You may agree with me that Grant Johnson belongs on the list of nominees. I think Cuban or Asian players should be considered as well. -
I can’t find it within myself to be either as kind or as diplomatic as you, Gary, or as the above comments. Frankly, this is nuts. It would seem to duplicate the work of the HOF’s Veteran’s Committee. Their rules appear to be silent on whether candidates who were previously considered by the Veteran’s Committee are eligible for this redundant consideration. If they are, that’s not fair to others who have been voted down. If these are new candidates, that solves the problem: send them to the existing committee for consideration.
Beyond that, there’s the absolutely surreal tone deafness involved here. It reminds me rather a lot of Bowie Kuhn’s initial reaction to considering Negro Leaguers for the HOF, which was to say that they might qualify for plaques, but those plaques ought to be in a separate room.
There are times when the wheel of progress seems to have been shifted into reverse.
