In addition to our project compiling Negro league and Cuban League statistics, Scott Simkus and I are also planning a weekly e-zine on baseball history, the Outsider Baseball Bulletin. This will allow us to 1) write at greater length than the blog form allows, and 2) recoup (through subscriptions) some of our research costs, which can be considerable.
Agate Type will continue as always, of course. But the OBB will be the place to look for more sustained and in-depth discussions of the margins of baseball history. Some of the pieces I’m working on will cover (among many subjects):
–Pete Hill’s remarkable 1919 season, when he helped to inaugurate the lively-ball era in black baseball;
–the peculiar (and possibly corrupt) scorekeeping practices of the Cuban League of the 1900s;
–obscure Negro-league connections with 1) modern pro wrestling and 2) the Lindbergh baby kidnapping.
